Camera Obscura: Light, Lens, Image
Camera Obscura: Light, Lens, Image is a hands-on workshop focused on the very basics of camera systems.
In this three hour workshop, we will explore the camera obscura--an ancient device that uses a pinhole or a lens to capture an image onto a plane. Together we will:
- Investigate and discuss the basic mechanisms of using lenses to produce an image
- Examine a number of different box-sized camera obscura, and discover how different apertures, lenses, and focal points alter the image
- Take photos with a scanner based camera obscura and delve into the magic of slitscan photos
- If the sun is shining, we will also build a room-sized camera obscura in the TELEPATHY studio!
Though we will *not* be building them during the workshop, participants will get instructions on how to make their own scanner obscura cameras at home!
This event will run from 7pm to 10pm.
- We will meet at The Active Space in Bushwick, Brooklyn, near the Jefferson L train stop.
- Address: 566 Johnson Ave, Brooklyn, NY, 11237.
