Born in China and based in Baltimore, Zoe Yizhen Lyu is a composer and sound artist whose work spans instrumental composition, electronic music, and sound art. Her practice explores the interplay between sound, space, movement, and spirituality. Blending Eastern aesthetics with contemporary sonic expression, Lyu creates immersive experiences that balance structural clarity with emotional depth.
Alexander Wu is a composer, improviser, pianist, electronic producer, and programmer based in Baltimore, MD. He is interested in far-fetched logic, misplaced memories, profaned tools, and sometimes disappointing sounds. He likes to mechanize the body and embody the machine, just as much as he likes to mechanize the machine and embody the body. Above all, however, he likes when both refuse to be either.
Hamish Robb is a Baltimore-based programmer, improviser, and composer of experimental and adventurous music. They make sounds of many natures that explore contradictions: synthetic/organic, rigid/liquid, sprawling/confined. In 2022, they earned a B.A. in Computer Science and Musical Studies from Oberlin College & Conservatory. They recently graduated with a M.M. in Computer Music from the Peabody Institute, studying with Sam Pluta. Part of their work engages with chaos in algorithmic composition and sound-generating techniques. They primarily use VCV Rack to create maximalist glitch music. Of note is their first album of unbridled synthesis, Machine Harm: The Harm of a Machine in Full Decimality, as well as their networked improvisation piece for laptop ensemble, Bruxist’s Mesh.
Darien Baiza is a drummer living in Baltimore. Coming from primarily an extreme metal background, he began working within the space of free-improvisation to "loosen the girders" in search of higher peaks and deeper valleys. He began playing drums at the early age of 5 years old and is self-taught. Inspired by impermanence, he utilizes the drumset as a familiar medium to invite, acquaint, and reconcile the obscure. He has performed under the names of, and with members of various collectives throughout the East Coast.
Max Gong is a composer, improviser, instrumentalist, pianist, and noise musician. He plays all kinds of stuff and performs locally in Baltimore. He goes about his life looking for himself, is afraid of repetitions, and prefers the simplest setups. He is also a member of the Peabody Improvisers Collective and the HighZero Collective.
