Political Prisoners Letter Writing for International Day of Solidarity with Long-Term Anarchist Prisoners
“Against another year of state encroachment, against the restriction of free movement under the auspices of “safety,” against the continued brutalization of our friends in prison, we call for a renewal of solidarity… to remember those fallen and those in cages, to remind ourselves of why we remain committed to the Beautiful Idea of anarchism. Through our letters, demonstrations, fundraising, and solidarity attacks we keep the beacon lit for those who have given years of their lives for their conviction that the State is a horror against which we must wager our lives.” -June 11 Zine
For over 20 years, June 11 has been observed as the International Day of Solidarity with Long-Term Anarchist Prisoners.
Here in Los Angeles, we will gather in the arboretum of Elysian Park for solidarity, action, and community. Meet us this Thursday evening to write letters of support, hope, and strength to political prisoners, incarcerated as a result of their political beliefs or actions taken to resist exploitation and the fight against oppression.
“Long-term” is not an arbitrary distinction for this day. Most prisoner support is strongest in the first days or months of incarceration, and then gradually fades. After years inside, especially without hope of early release, people can end up forgotten and isolated from the outside world, even from the communities and movements they belong to.
All peoples of all ages are welcome! Supplies for letter writing will be provided, as well as guidance on how to write letters to incarcerated people.
Thank you to organizations like Critical Resistance, Black & Pink, and the many other peoples, collectives, and organizations who consistently steward this work among much else.
no rsvp needed, but feel free to click through above if you’d like to donate.
100% of donations will be sent to the Anarchist Black Cross Federation’s Warchest Program.
